Beavers Rally Past Warheads to Claim 1-0 Series Lead
|
A clutch 9th inning gave the Northwest Territory Beavers a walk-off win over the Amarillo Warheads and a 1-0 lead in the 3L R Championship at Beaver Town today. Young right fielder Javier Castro, 20, earned player of the game honors for the Beavers, after he was 2-4 with a home run, while scoring 2 runs and driving in 2.
The clutch at-bat came in the bottom of the ninth inning, when Northwest Territory pinch hitter Martín Pliego, facing Peter Kossan, had a run-scoring sacrifice fly. It gave the Beavers the 5-4 win.
"This joint was rocking," said Pliego.
Game 2 is set to be played tomorrow at Beaver Town in Ft. Wayne. Slated to start are Jack Walker for the Amarillo Warheads and Jeremy Brody for the the Northwest Territory Beavers.
