Chiefs Hammered by Spann-Ford, Drop Game 4 to Blaze
|
The South Beach Blaze and the Caldwell Chiefs will take the PL A Championship to a decisive 5th game. Facing a must-win situation at The Ballpark on the Beach today, the Blaze beat the Chiefs 5-4 on a walk-off in extra innings to force the series into what will essentially be a one-game playoff. South Beach designated hitter Brevyn Spann-Ford was named player of the game in the win after he was 3-5 with a home run and a double, while scoring 2 runs and driving in 2.
The game came to a dramatic end. In the bottom of the 11th, with South Beach trailing 4-3, Spann-Ford hit a curveball from Vasile Alexandrescu for a 2-run home run, giving the Blaze the walk-off win.
"If it's down the middle," said Spann-Ford, "you might as well hit it."
The next game is set to be played Monday in Caldwell. The scheduled starters for the game are Diego Cartaya for the South Beach Blaze and Ena Tuuta for the the Caldwell Chiefs.
