3L A Championship Game 1 Victory for White and Columbia
The 3L A Championship got off to a quiet start today, with the host Columbia River Rats taking a low-scoring 2-1 win over the Kennesaw Jets. Columbia right-hander Michael White was marvelous at Columbia Stadium and was named player of the game. The River Rats now hold a 1-0 lead in the best-of-5 series.
The River Rats beat the Jets with some clutch hitting. The single by José García in the bottom of the fifth is a good example. With two down, García gave his team the lead, 2-1, when he came through with the big hit.
"At the end of the day, it's always about your starting pitcher," said Columbia skipper Kyle Besley.
The next game is set to be played tomorrow in Columbia. Slated to start are Andy Williams for the Kennesaw Jets and Said Akimi for the the Columbia River Rats.
