Rainbow Mermaids Edge Past Outlaws, 7-6
|
Northern Virginia withstood an impressive performance by Nashville first baseman Tom Burton to defeat the Outlaws, 7-6, at Nashville Stadium. Burton went 2 for 4 with 2 home runs, while adding 3 RBI and scoring twice. Yoriyoshi Sugimoto nailed down his 4th save. The Rainbow Mermaids have an impressive 41-19 record.
Northern Virginia used the bat of Tony Calhoun to get the win. The shortstop hammered a 2-run home run in the top of the ninth inning to put the Rainbow Mermaids ahead, 7-6. It was his lone hit in 5 at-bats, but it did its damage.
"Baseball is about momentum," said Calhoun, "and we feel we've got it in our favor after that win."
