Thrice as Nice: San Mateo Seizes - Advantage With Late Win
|
Rhys Maskell pitched well, but the Chicago Silver Sox lost anyway, falling 3-2 in extra innings to the San Mateo Dirty Reds at Lang Park. With the win, San Mateo took a - lead in the best-of- Silver League Championship. Maskell was named player of the game after giving the Silver Sox 7.1 innings and allowing 2 earned runs.
The game was at a stalemate until second baseman Hugh Mungus came to bat in the bottom of the 11th. Facing Chicago pitcher Valentin Calhamar, he hit a full count curveball for a solo home run. It was a game-changer, putting San Mateo on top, 3-2.
After the game, San Mateo manager Dean Ashley applauded the team's effort. "They busted their tails out there," he said.
