Still Kicking: Phoenix Cut Oakland Series Lead to - With Late Win
|
The Phoenix Hotspur started the Silver League Championship in dramatic fashion today, stealing Game 1 from the Oakland Oaks in a walk-off in the 10th inning. Phoenix took the 2-1 win thanks in large part to a good day from starter Tim Yoder. The right-hander threw 6 innings of 3-hit ball in the win, which gave the Hotspur a - lead to start the best-of- series.
The game was at a stalemate until second baseman Jonas van Claveren came to bat in the bottom of the tenth. Facing Oakland pitcher Júlio Rodríguez, he hit a first pitch fastball for a run-scoring single. It was a game-changer, putting Phoenix on top, 2-1.
"I made some pitches when I had to," said Yoder.
