Pivotal Game Goes to Host Evergreens, 4-3
|
Northern Virginia designated hitter Jason Schneider pounded Portland Evergreens pitchers at Evergreen Park, but it was not enough to keep the Rainbow Mermaids from falling, 4-3 in Game of the United States Premier League Championship. Schneider was 2 for 4 with a home run, while scoring 2 times and driving in 2 and was named player of the game for his efforts, even as he saw the Rainbow Mermaids slip to a - deficit in the best-of- series.
Billy Dotson, who led the PL in home runs with 31 last year, helped out the Portland cause in the bottom of the third inning with a run-scoring sacrifice fly. For the game, the third baseman went 1-3.
"We had the game right there for the taking," said Northern Virginia manager David Lister. "But we decided not to take it."
