Thrice as Nice: Philadelphia 1776 Seizes - Advantage With Late Win
|
Leon von Stroheim pitched well, but the Phoenix Hotspur lost anyway, falling 3-2 in extra innings to the Philadelphia 1776 BC at Ben Franklin Memorial Coliseum. With the win, Philadelphia 1776 took a - lead in the best-of- United States Premier League Championship. von Stroheim was named player of the game after giving the Hotspur 8.1 innings and allowing 2 earned runs.
The game was at a stalemate until right fielder Kelvin Abbott came to bat in the bottom of the 12th. Facing Phoenix pitcher Biff Tannen, he hit a first pitch fastball for a run-scoring single. It was a game-changer, putting Philadelphia 1776 on top, 3-2.
"Best-of- series are brutal," Phoenix manager Michael Esposito said. "You can get into trouble so fast. We can't afford any mistakes now."
