Silver League Championship Game 1 goes to Oakland Thanks to Héctor Velázquez

The Oakland Oaks started the Silver League Championship in style today, downing the visiting Seattle Rocketeers at Oakland Coliseum by a score of 7-4 to stake an early - lead in the best-of- series. Oaks center fielder Héctor Velázquez was named player of the game after he went 3 for 4 with 2 doubles, while adding 3 RBI and scoring once.
In the bottom of the fourth, Oakland third baseman Mike Strickland had a productive at-bat. With runners on 1st and 2nd and one out, Strickland stroked a 3-run home run to left-center. It made the score 3-0, Oakland. For the game, he was 1-4 with a home run. He drove in 3 runs and scored once.
"We haven't forgotten how long this series might be, but is a heck of a lot better than - ," Strickland said.
