Gómes drives in 5 runs, Rainbow Mermaids Move to 34-18
|
César Gómes made an impact in the 8-2 Northern Virginia win over Buckhead. Gómes, who is tied for 9th in the SL in triples with 2, was 2 for 4 with a home run, a triple, and a walk. He scored 2 runs and drove in 5. Noe Toepfer picked up the win with 6 innings of work. He allowed 1 earned run on 5 hits, while walking 2 and striking out 4. On the season, he is now 4-2. Earning his 2nd save of the year was Kingston Liniak.
Northern Virginia took a 5-1 lead on Gómes's 2nd triple of the season. The bases-clearing triple, which he hit off Arturo Guerrero in the top of the sixth, propelled Northern Virginia to the win.
"We're in a funk and we need to shake ourselves out of it," said Buckhead manager Kerry Hofmeister.
The winning streak has now reached 8 games for the Rainbow Mermaids.
