The Deer grabbed a win, 5-3, at Wrigley Field, overcoming a fine effort from Gibtown pitcher António Morales. Morales went 5 innings and allowed no earned runs. Francisco Martínez got the win, improving to 2-0. He pitched 6.1 innings, giving up 8 hits and 2 runs, while striking out 4 and walking 2. Tabari Dawud closed it out for his 4th save.
Sheridan used the timely hitting of Armando Ventura to seize the win. The right fielder stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the sixth inning to put the Deer on top, 3-1. It was his only hit in 5 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.
"I like to keep things lively in the clubhouse," said Ventura. "Believe me, it's much easier after a win."
The Deer raised their record to 45-37.
