Dirty Reds Drop Northern Lions BC with Late Score
|
The San Mateo Dirty Reds turned back the Thunder Bay Northern Lions BC, 7-6, at Great Northern Field. Denis Higgins was named player of the game for his fine performance. He went 3-3 with a double, 2 singles, and 2 walks, while scoring 2 runs. San Mateo reliever Anatoly Ivanovich was the winner. His record is now 1-1. Walt Coffman took the loss. San Mateo, now 26-25, holds 5th place in the Silver League.
San Mateo used the timely hitting of Hugh Mungus to capture the win. The third baseman socked a 2-run double in the top of the eighth inning to put the Dirty Reds ahead, 7-6. It was his only hit in 4 at-bats, but it was an important one.
"I've been criticized for being a slacker, but the one thing I do care about is winning," Mungus told the San Mateo Citizen.
