Castro 3-3, Beavers Move to 50-26
|
The Northwest Territory Beavers handed the Amarillo Warheads a loss at Beaver Town. The final score was 6-3. Javier Castro was named player of the game for Northwest Territory. In addition to his 2 singles and 1 home run, he scored 1 run and drove in 2. He also added 2 walks. Dennis van Putten, who went 5.2 innings, was the winning pitcher. He was charged with 2 runs on 3 hits, while walking 3 and striking out 10. His record now stands at 7-1. The winning streak has now reached 10 games for Northwest Territory.
The Warheads had been locked in a 2-2 tie with the Beavers going into the bottom of the fifth inning. That changed quickly when the 18-year old first baseman Mike Johnstone came to the plate. Johnstone hit a run-scoring single on a 3-1 curveball from Amarillo hurler Jhon Aimar. It was Johnstone's 69th hit of the year.
"It was a solid team effort and we'll try to keep this momentum going," Castro told reporters after the game.
