Oakland right fielder Gabriel Montoya picked up 3 ribbies while helping his team beat back the Northern Virginia Rainbow Mermaids, 4-3. Jeff Mahl picked up the win with 8 innings of work. He allowed 3 earned runs on 9 hits, while walking 1 and striking out 6. On the season, he is now 6-2. Getting the save was Júlio Rodríguez, his 9th.
Montoya had a game-changing home run in the top of the seventh. On a 2-1 fastball from Maru Pao Pao, he banged a 2-run home run to right, giving the Oaks a 4-3 lead. It was the 9th home run of the year for Montoya.
"Gabriel is still learning," said Oaks manager DAshley GoAs. "The sky's the limit for him."
Oakland is now riding a 3-game win streak.
