Harbor Whales Continue Skid Thanks to Sims, Hounds
|
Getting a good performance from third baseman Bob Sims, the Hicksville Hounds defeated the Greenport Harbor Whales, 6-3. Sims was 3 for 4 with a home run and a double. He scored 2 times and drove in 3 for the Hounds. José Reyes was the winning pitcher. Over 7 innings, he allowed 1 run on 3 hits, with 1 walk and 9 strikeouts. Hicksville has a 3-game win streak, while Greenport has lost 5 in a row.
Robbie Care had a big 2-run double for the Hounds in the bottom of the fifth inning. With Hicksville leading 1-0 and runners on 2nd and 3rd, he got a fastball from Ernesto Morín and stroked the double to left-center. It was his 7th double of the season, and more importantly, it put the Hounds ahead, 3-0.
"I'm proud of the boys for pulling through," said Hounds manager Wilber Moon. "The wins don't come easy for this team, but everyone's got an extra jump in their step after a game like this."
