Greenport Harbor Whales starter Javier Soto pitched effectively against the Sheridan Deer at Ballpark of Robbins. The right-hander spearheaded his team's 3-2 win. Masao Myoga got credit for the win, improving to 1-0. He allowed no runs on 2 hits in 1.2 innings. Things have gone south in a hurry for the defending champion Harbor Whales, who notched only their 6th win in 15 games.
The game was at a stalemate until second baseman Germán López came to bat in the bottom of the tenth. Facing Sheridan pitcher Dejenie Afiba, he hit a 1-0 fastball for a run-scoring single. It was a game-changer, putting Greenport on top, 3-2.
Soto told a Greenport Daily reporter that he was "satisfied" with the win.
