Harbor Whales Hope Win Turns Around Slow Start
|
It was a fun time at Ballpark of Robbins, where the Sheridan Deer and Greenport Harbor Whales tangled.
The Greenport Harbor Whales defeated the Sheridan Deer, 5-1, at Ballpark of Robbins. Greenport left fielder Wessel Dekkers was named player of the game for his superb performance. He went 4-4 with a double and 3 singles. He scored 2 times. Zuo-lin Liang picked up the win, improving his season record to 2-2. He struck out 5 in 5.1 innings.
The Deer had been locked in a 1-1 tie with the Harbor Whales going into the bottom of the fifth inning. That changed quickly when the 18-year old first baseman Kyung-ryul Kim came to the plate. Kim hit a run-scoring single on a 2-1 cutter from Sheridan hurler Marc Grandjean. It was Kim's 19th hit of the year.
Kim called the win "a collective effort."
The Harbor Whales are off to a tough start, getting just their 5th win in 14 games.
