Greenport beat Gibtown on the strength of starter Zuo-lin Liang's fine effort. The right-hander led his team to a 7-2 win. Liang, the winner, moves to 1-2. He threw 5 innings of 4-hit ball, while fanning 1 and giving up 2 walks. Things have gone south in a hurry for the defending champion Harbor Whales, who notched only their 4th win in 11 games.
The Harbor Whales got a big boost from center fielder Ben Russell who had a run-scoring ground out in the top of the fourth inning off Elephants hurler Sammy Reed. It was his 3rd RBI of the season and put Greenport on top, 3-2.
Russell called the triumph "a good team win."
