Fans who gathered at Ballpark of Robbins saw a good contest between the Bompton Baby Lakers and Greenport Harbor Whales.
The Bompton Baby Lakers relied on the hitting of right fielder Steffen Schulte to stop the Greenport Harbor Whales, 4-3. For the game, Schulte went 3-4 with 3 singles and a walk. Bompton reliever Jason Logan picked up the win, upping his record to 1-0. Ernesto Morín absorbed the loss. Craig Wash, summoned from the bullpen, notched his 2nd save.
The game was all tied up in the top of the eighth, until Schulte delivered big-time for Bompton, stroking a dramatic run-scoring single off Ernesto Morín. The game-changing hit put the Baby Lakers on top, 4-3.
"We did a lot of things right," said Schulte.
The Baby Lakers, now 4-1, have been on a roll in the early going.
