Fire Solve Hotspur Academy, 5-2
|
Getting an impressive start from Napoleon Vitagliano, Franklin beat Phoenix by the score of 5-2. Vitagliano, now 2-4, was the winner. In 7.1 innings, he gave up 6 hits, while striking out 9, walking 0, and allowing 2 earned runs. Aubrey Swanson got the save, the 10th for him this season.
The Hotspur Academy had been locked in a 1-1 tie with the Fire going into the bottom of the fourth inning. That changed quickly when the 20-year old shortstop Charlie Yaeger came to the plate. Yaeger hit a run-scoring single on a 2-0 fastball from Phoenix hurler Bernard Hewer. It was Yaeger's 55th hit of the year.
"We'll enjoy this win," said Vitagliano. "But there's more we hope to accomplish."
The last-place Fire now have a win-loss record of 22-44.
