Submarinos Score Late to Upend Interns, 6-3
|
The Amarillo Submarinos knocked off the Capital Hill Interns, 6-3, at Alouettes Ballpark. Rashid Jeltkov, who captured player of the game honors, was a big reason Amarillo won. The right fielder went 1-2 with a double, a walk, and was hit by a pitch. He drove in 2 runs and scored once. The winner was Amarillo reliever Kelvin Bowen, now 1-0. The loser was Aki Kiridoshi. Danny Stam earned his 8th save in 9 tries.
Amarillo used the timely hitting of Ron Carlisle to capture the win. The shortstop stroked a run-scoring double in the top of the eighth inning to put the Submarinos on top, 4-3. It was his only hit in 5 at-bats, but he made it count.
"You can't get too high when things go well, or too low when things go bad. Right now, I'm just happy we got the win," Carlisle told the Amarillo News.
The Interns, now 4-17, have lost 5 in a row.
