Herrera Excels, But Rainbow Mermaids Win
|
Northern Virginia withstood an impressive performance by Thunder Bay right fielder Jorge Herrera to defeat the Northern Lions BC, 5-3, at Great Northern Field. Herrera belted 2 home runs. He scored 3 runs and drove in 2. Ratko Davidovic got the win, improving to 1-0. He worked 7 innings, giving up 2 runs on 4 hits, while striking out 1 and walking 5. The save was credited to Brewster Warble, his 5th.
Northern Virginia used a timely hit from Zahid Kashani to get the win. The third baseman delivered a 2-run triple in the top of the first inning to put the Rainbow Mermaids on top, 4-0. It was his only hit in 3 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.
"When this team comes together and plays the way we can, we can compete with anyone," said Kashani. "I think we're going to keep proving that."
The Rainbow Mermaids have an impressive 18-10 record.
