Rainbow Mermaids Rally to Eke Out Win
The Northern Virginia Rainbow Mermaids overcame a good performance by San Mateo left fielder Iván Vega to knock off San Mateo, 4-3, at Lang Park. Vega went 2 for 3 with 2 home runs and 2 walks. Northern Virginia reliever Brewster Warble got the win, raising his record to 2-1. Merlin Bassett was tagged with the loss. The loss drops San Mateo to 5-6.

Northern Virginia used the bat of Daniel McCoy to capture the win. The left fielder jacked a solo home run in the top of the 11th inning to put the Rainbow Mermaids ahead, 4-3. It was his lone hit in 5 at-bats, but it was a dandy.

"This is a resilient bunch," said Northern Virginia manager David Lister.
