The Phoenix Hotspur U-21 racked up a win at Smokies Stadium, bumping off the Tennessee Smokies, 4-3. Rick Hubbard, who started for Phoenix, pitched effectively for his team. Hubbard got the win, improving to 1-3. He allowed 5 hits and walked 2 over 7 innings. Hubbard allowed 2 earned runs. Luis Bruno closed the door for Phoenix, picking up his 8th save of the year.
In the top of the sixth, with Phoenix leading 3-1, first baseman Alfonso Ramírez hit a run-scoring single. The hit came off Paolo Speranza and put the Hotspur U-21 ahead, 4-1.
"I'm proud of the boys for pulling through," said Hotspur U-21 manager Dexter Shannon. "The wins don't come easy for this team, but everyone's got an extra jump in their step after a game like this."
Phoenix is now 25-38, while Tennessee is 34-29.
