Storm Use Late-Game Magic to Beat Airmen
|
The Syracuse Storm relied on the hitting of left fielder Rick Newell to stop the Alameda Airmen, 7-6. For the game, Newell went 2 for 4 with a home run and a walk. He scored 2 times and drove in 2. The win was Alex Calhoun's in relief. His record improves to 3-0. Batu Khan took the loss for Alameda. Syracuse is now riding a 3-game win streak.
Pat Kramer was the walk-off hero for Syracuse. With the game tied in the bottom of the ninth inning, the Storm right fielder hit a dramatic run-scoring single to send the teams home.
In postgame comments to the Syracuse Citizen, Newell said, "If the effort is there, the wins will come."
