Tennessee Hot Streak Continues with 7-3 Win
|
The Tennessee Smokies defeated the Washington Generals, 7-3, at Washington Park today. Leading the charge for Tennessee was right fielder Mo Meaker. He was 2 for 5 with a home run, while adding 4 RBI and scoring once. Júlio del Bosque got the win, improving to 6-4. He pitched 5.2 innings, giving up 7 hits and 3 runs, while striking out 5 and walking 2. The Smokies, now 29-23, have won 8 in a row.
Meaker had a game-changing single in the top of the sixth. On a 1-1 cutter from John Moore, he banged a run-scoring single to center, giving the Smokies a 4-3 lead. It was the 54th hit of the year for Meaker.
"We played hard and won," said Meaker. "Sometimes, baseball really is that easy.'
