Hawks Subdue Phoenix, 5-4
|
The Laredo Hawks beat the Phoenix Hotspur U-21, 5-4 at Hotspur Kiddie Complex, in part due to shortstop Sergio San Martín, who nabbed player of the game honors. He went 3 for 5 with 2 doubles. He scored 2 runs. Javier Iturburua earned the save for Laredo, his 2nd of the year. The first-place Hawks have a one-game lead in their division.
Eddie Neef, who is tied for 10th in the SA in doubles with 11, aided the Laredo cause with a run-scoring single in the top of the fifth. For the game, the right fielder was 3 for 5 with a double and 2 singles.
"It was our day today," San Martín told the Laredo Herald. "But we've got to keep our nose to the grindstone."
