The Washington Generals topped the Chicago Tula, 4-2, with youngster Stanley Zijm playing a key role. Zijm was 3 for 3 with a home run, 2 singles, and a walk. He drove in 2 runs and scored once for the Generals in the win. Earning his 7th save of the year was Van Hileman. The second-place Generals improved to 12-9.
Had Alex Avery not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the eighth, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and a runner on 2nd, Avery hit a run-scoring double. That made the score 3-2, in favor of the Generals.
"If you pitch well, you give yourself some opportunities," said Washington manager Desmond Woodford.
