Storm Continue Hot Start to Season With Win
|
The Syracuse Storm grabbed a 6-2 win over the Niagara Falls Expos at Waterfall Park. Syracuse left fielder Rick Newell went 2 for 4 with 2 doubles and a walk, while scoring 2 times to earn player of the game honors. Reliever Marvin Wilson picked up the win. His record improves to 1-0. Bruno Zoido took the loss. With their winning streak at 6, the Storm have raced to a strong start this season.
Syracuse used the timely hitting of Nikolai Volkoff to capture the win. The first baseman socked a 2-run double in the top of the third inning to put the Storm ahead, 4-1. It was his only hit in 4 at-bats, but it was an important one.
"I still think this team has room for improvement," Newell told the Syracuse Citizen.
