The Mancelona Torch did just enough to secure a 4-3 victory over the Niagara Falls Expos at Torch Field. Nobody did more than pitcher Anthony Hurst, who captured player of the game honors. Hurst got the win, improving to 1-1. He allowed 5 hits and walked 2 over 7 innings. Hurst allowed 2 earned runs. Amadi Azagba closed it out for his 1st save.
Enrique Flores's at-bat in the bottom of the fourth inning was a big one for Mancelona. Coming to bat with one out, the bases loaded and Mancelona trailing 2-1, the third baseman grounded out, driving in 1 run.
"Honestly, I'm not frustrated," said Niagara Falls manager Terry Stokes. "The effort was great."
The Torch have stumbled out of the gate, getting only their 2nd win in 6 games.
