Generals Score Late to Upend Torch, 2-0
|
Washington got a first-rate effort from pitcher Álex Ortíz, who frustrated Mancelona hitters en route to a 2-0 Generals triumph at Washington Park. Washington reliever Pascal Durand was credited with the win, to go to 1-0. Marty McFly took the loss for Mancelona. Van Hileman finished the game for Washington and earned his 1st save.
The game was at a stalemate until shortstop Jeroen Penning came to bat in the bottom of the eighth. Facing Mancelona pitcher Marty McFly, he hit a 2-1 curveball for a run-scoring double. It was a game-changer, putting Washington on top, 1-0.
"I felt we were ready to go," said Washington manager Desmond Woodford. "Our pregame was pretty good."
Washington, at 3-0, is off to a blistering start.
