Bulls Come Up Short at Cape Coral
|
The Cape Coral Reefers and Mt. Vernon Bulls played an exciting game at Margaritaville Park.
The Cape Coral Reefers picked up a win at Margaritaville Park, knocking off the Mt. Vernon Bulls, 3-2. Starting pitcher Hsiao-lou Lei played a key role in the triumph. Lei went 6 innings to notch the win. He scattered 7 hits, walked 2, and struck out 6. His record improves to 3-4. Oakland Scanlan picked up the save for Cape Coral, his 5th of the year.
The Reefers got a big at-bat from designated hitter Fernando Negrete. For the game, Negrete went 1 for 2. In the bottom of the sixth, with runners on 1st and 3rd, he stroked a run-scoring single. His 6th hit of the season gave Cape Coral a 3-2 lead.
"That's the key at this level, throwing strike one," said Lei. "Successful pitchers do it."
At 48-37, Cape Coral is in 4th place in the Menard's A.
