River Rats Mow Down Jets, 9-4
|
The inspired effort of Kennesaw third baseman Scipione Borghese was not enough to prevent a 9-4 loss to the Columbia River Rats. Borghese was 3-4 with a home run and 2 singles. He drove in 3 runs and scored once. Columbia starter Sammy Reed was credited with the win after throwing 106 pitches over 6 innings. His record now stands at 3-0. Columbia has run its win streak to 4 in a row.
With runs few and far between, the River Rats had to seize their opportunities when they came. One of the most important chances for Columbia came in the bottom of the third inning, when shortstop Tony Castellanos delivered a bases-clearing triple. The triple was hit off Andy Williams and made the score 6-0, River Rats. Castellanos was 3-4 with a triple and 2 singles, while adding 3 RBI and scoring once.
"It was a solid team effort and we'll try to keep this momentum going," Castellanos told reporters after the game.
