Supernovas Best Nobles in Pitching Duel
|
Scranton rode a good effort from starter Matt O'Keevan to beat the Bakersfield Nobles at Nuclear Stadium. The final score was 2-1. O'Keevan went 6 innings to notch the win. He scattered 6 hits, walked 2, and struck out 2. His record improves to 2-5. Butch Cummings picked up the save, his 14th.
Gary Jenkins had a big run-scoring single for the Supernovas in the bottom of the fourth inning. With Scranton leading 1-0 and a runner on 2nd, he got a splitter from James Lendell Basford and stroked the single to right. It was his 34th hit of the season, and more importantly, it put the Supernovas ahead, 2-0.
"We squandered some opportunities," said Bakersfield manager Enrique Castro.
The winning streak has now reached 4 games for the Supernovas.
