Mayasich Slugs Nobles to 8-7 Win
|
Both teams had their chances, but the Bakersfield Nobles eventually prevailed at Lookouts Ballpark.
The Bakersfield Nobles trumped the Bloomington Longnecks, 8-7, at Lookouts Ballpark. Bakersfield center fielder John Mayasich was named player of the game for his performance. He was 3-5 with 2 home runs. He drove in 4 runs and scored twice. Reliever Mark Robinson picked up the win. His record improves to 1-1. Ron Mingo took the loss.
Mayasich contributed a big hit, a 3-run home run, for Bakersfield in the top of the ninth. With his team trailing 7-5, Mayasich took a sinker from Ron Mingo and stroked the home run to right-center. His 9th home run of the season allowed the Nobles to leap in front, 8-7.
"We got the victory," said Mayasich. "That's all that matters at the end of the day."
Bloomington has now lost 5 in a row.
