Durham shortstop Tsuneari Hirano had a terrific game, but it still wasn't enough to get his team a win. Hirano went 3 for 4 with 3 singles, even as Asheville beat the Rapiers, 4-3. Hirano was named the player of the game despite the loss. With the win, the Highlanders improved to 53-49.
Asheville used the timely hitting of Tyler Marés to capture the win. The second baseman socked a 2-run double in the top of the fifth inning to put the Highlanders ahead, 4-3. It was his only hit in 3 at-bats, but it was an important one.
"It was a solid team effort and we'll try to keep this momentum going," Marés told reporters after the game.
