Highlanders Clip Rapiers in Tight Contest
|
Durham got a terrific performance from left fielder Blake Browning, but it wasn't enough to beat the Asheville Highlanders. Asheville won the Asheville Park contest, 5-4. Browning was the player of the game despite being on the losing side. He went 2-3 with a home run, a walk, and was hit by a pitch. He scored 2 times and drove in 2. With the win, the Highlanders improved to 52-48.
The game was at a stalemate until second baseman Tyler Marés came to bat in the bottom of the eighth. Facing Durham pitcher Valentyn Hochmiller, he hit a 2-2 knuckle curve for a run-scoring single. It was a game-changer, putting Asheville on top, 5-4.
"We found a way to get it done," Marés said.
