Polar Bears Win at Olympia, 5-1
|
The Billings Polar Bears defeated the Olympia Ogres, 5-1, at The Ogre Den today. Leading the charge for Billings was left fielder Hai-liang Yi. He went 3 for 5 with a home run and a triple. He scored 2 times and drove in 2. Juan Ayala was the winning pitcher. Over 5.2 innings, he allowed 1 run on 4 hits, with 2 walks and 4 strikeouts. The 11th-place Polar Bears lifted their record to 37-53.
Billings right fielder Wilbur Thomas contributed a timely at-bat in the top of the third. With two down, he hit a fastball into left field for a run-scoring double. It was his 10th double of the season and put the Polar Bears ahead, 3-1.
"We take it day by day here," said Thomas, "and today was a good one for us."
