Yamashita Powers Rapiers to 13-9 Win
With catcher Takechi Yamashita leading the charge, the Durham Rapiers defeated the Ithaca Fighting Imps, 13-9, at Rapiers Ballpark. Yamashita was 4 for 4 with a triple, 3 singles, and a walk. He drove in 4 runs and scored once. Durham reliever Leon Sorensen picked up the win, upping his record to 3-1. Reid Myers shouldered the loss. The Rapiers now own a record of 42-46.

The game was at a stalemate until center fielder Kevin Bates came to bat in the bottom of the eighth. Facing Ithaca pitcher Reid Myers, he hit a full count fastball for a run-scoring single. It was a game-changer, putting Durham on top, 10-9.

"We put it together today and came out with the win," Yamashita said in postgame remarks. "That's the main thing."
