The Akron Blimps beat the Olympia Ogres, 8-1, at The Ogre Den. The win was largely due to the efforts of shortstop Carlos Martínez, who captured player of the game honors. He hit 2 home runs. He drove in 5 runs and scored twice. Jay Cannon, who went 7.2 innings, was the winning pitcher. He was charged with 1 run on 6 hits, while walking 3 and striking out 4. His record now stands at 1-2. The last-place Ogres have dropped 4 straight games.
Akron took a 4-1 lead on Martínez's 13th home run of the season. The 3-run home run, which he hit off Walt Smith in the top of the sixth, propelled Akron to the win.
"We maximized our offense today," said Akron skipper Emílio Sáenz. "That makes everyone's life easier."
