Fighting Imps Stay Hot With 6-4 Win
|
The Ithaca Fighting Imps stopped the San Antonio BC, 6-4, behind an impressive performance from Ewan Manshert. The 26-year old first baseman made life miserable for San Antonio pitching. He went 3-3 with a double, 2 singles, and 2 walks. Chris Hughes got the win, improving to 3-2. He worked 6 innings, giving up 4 runs on 8 hits, while striking out 4 and walking 1. Jeffery Brock recorded the save for Ithaca, his 12th of the season.
Ithaca used the timely hitting of Nelson Rivera to seize the win. The center fielder stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the fifth inning to put the Fighting Imps on top, 2-1. It was his only hit in 4 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.
In comments to the Ithaca Chronicle, Rivera admitted he's been told to improve his work habits. "But," he said, "I know when to take it to another gear."
The third-place Fighting Imps have won 7 in a row.
