Atoms Slip Past Asheville, 3-2
|
The Bethesda Atoms did just enough to secure a 3-2 victory over the Asheville Highlanders at Atoms Field. Nobody did more than pitcher Cristóbal Román, who captured player of the game honors. Bethesda reliever Ernesto Méndez picked up the win to move to 2-0. Wei Shan suffered the loss. Bethesda is now 16-13, Asheville 18-11.
Bethesda took a 3-2 lead on Preston Johnston's 23rd hit of the season. The run-scoring single, which Johnston hit in the bottom of the 13th, left Asheville pitcher Wei Shan shaking his head.
"This level of focus will win us a lot of ballgames," Johnston said after the game.
