The Akron Blimps got a magnificent performance from pitcher Tim Walker, who muffled the Billings offense en route to a tight 3-1 Blimps win at Goodyear Hanger Dome. Walker, now 1-0, was the winner. In 6 innings, he gave up 2 hits, while striking out 6, walking 0, and allowing no earned runs. Hans Rager recorded the save for Akron, his 5th of the season.

The Polar Bears had been locked in a 0-0 tie with the Blimps going into the bottom of the fifth inning. That changed quickly when the 25-year old third baseman Dale Epner came to the plate. Epner hit a 2-run home run on a full count changeup from Billings hurler Albert Karlier. It was Epner's 2nd home run of the year.

"Enjoyed this one," Epner told the Akron Bulletin. "But it's back to work tomorrow."

It was the 7th win in 11 games this year for the defending champion Blimps, who are picking up where they left off.
