Ogres Deal Polar Bears Painful Loss
|
Olympia beat Billings at The Ogre Den, eking out a 6-5 win. The win was due in large part to pitcher Ding-bong Zhu, who earned player of the game honors. Olympia reliever Walt Smith picked up the win, bumping his record to 1-0. Alberto Jaramillo was collared with the loss. The win leaves Olympia with a record of 3-6.
In the bottom of the ninth, with two out and the game tied, 5-5, designated hitter Chico Custardoi won it for Olympia. With runners on 1st and 2nd, Custardoi hit a first pitch sinker from Alberto Jaramillo for a run-scoring single, giving his team a 6-5 win.
"Baseball is about momentum," said Custardoi, "and we feel we've got it in our favor after that win."
