The Augusta Timber Hawks topped the Alloway Halberds, 12-3, with center fielder Xuan-ling Chen playing a big role. Chen went 2-2 with a home run. He drove in 4 runs and scored once for the Timber Hawks in the win. Augusta reliever Dino Moonglampers picked up the win to move to 1-0. Ryan Dull suffered the loss. Augusta is now 42-34, while Alloway is 41-35.

The game was at a stalemate until left fielder Ken Gill came to bat in the top of the eighth. Facing Alloway pitcher Ryan Dull, he hit a first pitch fastball for a run-scoring single. It was a game-changer, putting Augusta on top, 4-3.

"We'll savor this win," Gill told the Augusta Herald, "then get ready for the next game."
