Lake Monsters Down Hotspur Reserves, 4-1
|
The Vermont Lake Monsters downed the Phoenix Hotspur Reserves, 4-1, at Thunderbirds Stadium. The Lake Monsters were led by Hsi-men King, who captured player of the game honors. He went 3 for 4 with 3 singles. Vermont reliever Rich Choquette picked up the win, upping his record to 3-1. Habakkuk Baldonado took the loss. Phoenix, at 11-23, has lost 4 straight.
Vermont used the timely hitting of Naganori Takahashi to seize the win. The designated hitter stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the third inning to put the Lake Monsters on top, 3-0. It was his only hit in 4 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.
In postgame comments to the Vermont Daily News, Takahashi said, "If the effort is there, the wins will come."
