Tritons Score Late, Upend Lake Monsters, 6-4
|
Vermont got a terrific performance from pitcher Mark Clift, but it wasn't enough to beat the Jersey City Tritons. Jersey City won the Jersey City Grounds contest, 6-4. Clift was the player of the game despite being on the losing side. He threw 6 innings of 4-hit ball. Chris Sommer earned the save for Jersey City, his 4th. The Tritons improve their record to 13-9 with the win over Vermont.
The game was at a stalemate until catcher David Elías came to bat in the bottom of the eighth. Facing Vermont pitcher António Rodríguez, he hit a first pitch fastball for a run-scoring single. It was a game-changer, putting Jersey City on top, 5-4.
"We'll grab a cold one tonight and go after another win tomorrow," Elías said.
