Ponce de Leon Excels in Calgary Win
|
The Calgary Lynx beat the Bakersfield Nobles, 6-3, at Lynx Stadium. The win was largely due to the efforts of second baseman Gerardo Ponce de Leon, who captured player of the game honors. He went 4-4 with a home run and 3 singles. He scored 3 times. Losses have been few and far between for the Nobles, who are now 4-1.
Had José Román not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the seventh, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and runners on 1st and 2nd, Román hit a 3-run home run. That made the score 4-3, in favor of the Lynx.
"We cashed in when we had the chance," said Calgary manager Thomas Kemp.
