Loss to Continentals Extends Tacoma Losing Streak
|
In a low-scoring tilt between the Chesapeake Continentals and the Tacoma Fur Traders, Paul Vereen was the difference-maker. The Chesapeake left-hander earned player of the game honors in the 3-2 win. Vereen, now 4-4, was the winner. In 6.1 innings, he gave up 5 hits, while striking out 5, walking 2, and allowing no earned runs. Dou-guan Shao finished to wrap up his 14th save.
Chesapeake designated hitter Pat Hopkins staked his team to an early lead in the bottom of the first inning, when he drew a walk, driving in 1 run with the bases loaded.
Tacoma manager George Sanford said he was "mildly disappointed" with the loss. "We had our opportunities, but we didn't take advantage of them," he said.
The Fur Traders, now 40-48, have lost 6 in a row.
