The Yakima Hops got a stellar effort from pitcher Steve Barnett, helping Yakima score a 4-2 win over the visiting Virginia Beach Whales. The second-place Hops improved to 51-29.

Juan Arellano had a big run-scoring single for the Hops in the bottom of the sixth inning. With Yakima leading 3-2 and runners on 1st and 2nd, he got a fastball from Stan Lowe and stroked the single to left. It was his 73rd hit of the season, and more importantly, it put the Hops ahead, 4-2.

"At the end of the day, it's always about your starting pitcher," said Yakima skipper Tomás Gonzáles.
